POSITION SUMMARY:

The Mohs Histotech located in Pinehurst, NC plays a vital role in providing specialist histotechnical services for Mohs micrographic surgery. This position requires a high degree of precision, critical thinking, and efficiency in preparing tissue specimens while supporting surgeons in a collaborative clinical environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Prepare and cut frozen sections from tissue specimens using Mohs surgical techniques.
  • Process and embed excised tissues to ensure optimal preparation for histological evaluation.
  • Perform histological staining techniques to prepare laboratory slides accurately.
  • Assure quality control of slides and maintain compliance with laboratory standards and protocols.
  • Document all processes in accordance with the Mohs procedure guidelines and laboratory policies.
  • Interact with patients and clinical staff in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Oversee the maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Maintain a safe and sterile laboratory environment while adhering to OSHA and CLIA regulations.
  • Participate in ongoing education and training to further develop histological practices.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned to support the laboratory operations.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Histotechnology or a related field is required.
  • Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as a Histotechnologist (HTL) is highly preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in Mohs histotechnology is advantageous.
  • Proficient in laboratory techniques with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Able to work effectively both independently and within a team setting.
