Job Summary
Americas Gold & Silver is seeking an experienced Capital Projects Manager to lead a portfolio of sustaining and growth capital projects at the historic Galena Complex in Wallace, Idaho.
This role will lead cross-functional teams to successfully develop, manage, coordinate, and execute capital initiatives that support ongoing underground operations and long-term site development. The Capital Projects Manager is accountable for safe, predictable project delivery and will collaborate closely with engineering, operations, and corporate stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Lead a cross-functional team of project practitioners to define project scope, goals, and deliverables aligned with business objectives.
- Facilitate stakeholder meetings, set priorities, evaluate requests, and secure necessary approvals.
- Develop comprehensive project execution plans; manage issues and risks; drive resolution and allocate resources to ensure successful outcomes.
- Lead and manage both internal and external project resources, including contractors and engineering service providers.
- Establish tracking and reporting controls to evaluate progress and schedule performance; coordinate with procurement to ensure commercial alignment.
- Track and communicate capital portfolio performance, project status, risks, and key milestones; adjust plans, budgets, and resources as required.
- Develop detailed work breakdown structures (WBS) and implementation strategies.
- Ensure all project deliverables—internal or third-party—meet scope, quality, and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee front-end engineering and scope development (FEL), detailed design, and construction execution.
- Ensure design accuracy and compliance with specifications and standards prior to issue for construction.
- Lead development of design basis across all technical disciplines and validate constructability and operability.
- Direct construction teams to ensure safe planning and execution during project delivery.
- Participate in HSE reviews, permit audits, housekeeping inspections, and process hazard analyses to ensure safety and compliance prior to full project funding.
- Maintain consistent safety leadership, ensuring all work is performed in a safe and injury-free manner.
- Lead steering committee meetings to maintain alignment with senior management.
- Provide practical solutions to improve cost, schedule, and quality performance (continuous improvement mindset).
- Consult extensively with internal and external subject matter experts (SMEs).
- Mentor and develop project staff on technical, strategic, and business aspects of capital execution.
- Promote strong collaboration across engineering, operations, maintenance, and corporate functions.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related technical discipline from an accredited university.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is considered an asset.
- 10+ years of experience in mining or similar heavy industrial environments.
- Minimum 5 years as a project lead executing capital projects in mining or industrial manufacturing.
- Experience spanning both office-based engineering and field-based execution environments.
- Minimum 4 years of supervisory or management experience within an owner organization.
- Extensive knowledge of multidisciplinary technical deliverables, including:
- P&IDs
- Mechanical systems
- Electrical systems
- Instrumentation and controls
- Strong knowledge of engineering design tools and technical documentation.
- Demonstrated experience working within a stage-gate project delivery system.
- Proficiency in project controls, including estimating, planning/scheduling, cost control, productivity measurement, and risk management.
- Ability to develop, interpret, and evaluate detailed project reports.
- Knowledge of various project contracting and procurement strategies.
- Proven ability to supervise internal and external multi-disciplinary teams.
- Strong problem-solving capabilities with the ability to deliver timely and accurate solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including engagement with senior leadership.
