The EA Business Unit in Wendell, North Carolina, which is its U.S. headquarters, focuses on photovoltaic inverters, medium‑voltage power distribution equipment including packaging and services, and solutions including automation.
Position OverviewWe are looking for a Mechanical Engineer based in Wendell, NC. Relocation assistance is available. This role will be hybrid, with flexibility to work in-office and from home.
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Medium Voltage Switchgear team (covering both Gas‑Insulated and Air‑Insulated technologies). This role focuses on our Sie Break™ and 8

36 product lines, supporting design, documentation, and manufacturing in Wendell, NC.
You’ll make an impact by:
- Serving as Mechanical Engineering point of contact for Siemens MV Switchgear products SIEBREAK TM, SIEBREAK VCB TM, and 8
DJH
36 gear. - Job duties can be broken across three categories: “Design & Documentation,” “Collaboration,” and “Support & Quality.”
- Working independently to create all documents for customer approval and manufacturing of Medium Voltage switch gear per design specifications using Engineering Design and Configurator software. Typical documents include:
- Customer Specification Alignment
- 3D Models for Factory Fabrication
- General Arrangement
- Side Views
- Bill of Materials
- Collaborating with multiple stakeholders across the project lifecycle, including Application Engineers, Project Engineers, and Mechanical Engineers.
- Acting as a quality gate prior to release of drawings/documentation to customer and factory. Responsibilities include assembly drawings, detailed drawings, manufacturing sketches, layouts, inspection data, and bill of materials.
- Owning the overall deliverables from a mechanical standpoint – including design, drafting, and customer/factory deliverables.
- Providing factory support during the manufacture phase of projects, ensuring quality requirements are met, and offering technical support or clarifications to customers during FAT.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
- 3+ years of proven experience working with the engineering or drafting of electrical power distribution products and systems. Preference given to experience with switch gear.
- Experience working with 3D models.
- Demonstrable proficiency with AutoCAD.
- Ability to multitask and manage large workloads and business demands.
- An ideal candidate is self‑driven, detail‑oriented, system‑thinker, process‑driven, and embraces a culture of quality.
- Candidate to have work authorization permitting work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Ability to travel internationally; work will require trips to Germany.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1–2 years of experience working in a complex made‑to‑order manufacturing environment.
- Experience with mechanical design for medium‑voltage switch gear, preference given to Siemens switch gear and electrical products.
- Demonstrable proficiency working with SAP or similar MRP/ERP systems.
- Demonstrable proficiency working with complex engineering BoMs “Bill of Materials.”
