Controls Technician

Are you a hands-on Controls Technician who enjoys working across both electrical engineering and PLC software? Do you thrive in fast-paced automation environments where uptime really matters?
An established systems integrator within the warehouse automation and intralogistics sector is looking to recruit a Controls Technician to join its technical support team. This is a permanent role offering a balanced split between electrical build and servicing, alongside Siemens PLC and HMI programming using TIA Portal S7-1500.
You will play a key role across installation, commissioning, diagnostics, and long-term system support. The position also includes being part of a 24/7 out-of-hours support rota, acting as the first line of response for mission-critical automation systems.
The RoleBuild, install, and configure industrial control panels and electrical systems for automated warehouse solutions
Develop, support, and commission Siemens TIA Portal S7-1500 PLC and HMI software
Carry out electrical testing, diagnostics, servicing, and fault-finding to maximise system uptime
Support full project life cycles from installation through to customer handover and live operation
Provide remote and on-site fault support as part of a 24/7 out-of-hours rota
Work closely with engineering, commissioning, and project teams to integrate hardware and software systems
Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:30
Participation in a 24/7 out-of-hours support rota is required
Some flexibility is essential due to the nature of logistics and automation environments
Salary up to £55,000, depending on experience
25 days annual leave plus bank holidays

NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or similar
City & Guilds 2391 (Initial & Periodic Inspection and Testing)
Strong knowledge of BS7671, health and safety regulations, and industrial compliance standards
Proven experience building and installing industrial control panels to BS standards
Hands-on Siemens TIA Portal and S7-1500 PLC experience, including software modification and fault-finding
Confident in electrical and control system commissioning, diagnostics, and testing using standard test equipment
Ability to interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation
