Position: MATERNAL FETAL MEDICINE - ULTRASOUND SONOGRAPHER

Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Ultrasonographer Sonographer to join our team!

Job Summary

The Maternal Fetal Medicine sonographer is responsible for performing advanced obstetric ultrasound examinations to evaluate fetal development, maternal well‑being, and potential complications due to high‑risk pregnancy conditions. This position requires specialized knowledge and expertise in maternal fetal medicine, strong technical proficiency, and the ability to work collaboratively with physicians and clinical teams to ensure precise imaging and accurate diagnoses. There is a high expectation that MFM sonographers will give exceptional, supportive patient care in complex and sensitive situations.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Independently performs a wide range of ultrasound examinations in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures, both in the department and at the patient’s bedside.
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of fetal anatomy, pathology, and physiology, as well as an understanding of systemic maternal‑fetal interactions. Appropriately positions patients to optimize image quality while ensuring comfort and safety.
  • Assist physician with invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including amniocentesis.
  • Recognizes clinical concerns or emergent conditions that may impact examinations and takes appropriate action in accordance with departmental protocols.
  • Apply critical thinking and clinical judgment to enhance examinations using additional imaging modalities when indicated by fetal anomalies or maternal conditions; selects and acquires high‑quality images for physician interpretation.
  • Accurately measure maternal and fetal anatomical structures and pathology to support diagnostic evaluation and identification of fetal abnormalities.
  • Evaluate the technical quality of sonographic studies prior to submission and complete required worksheets for interpretation by the maternal‑fetal medicine specialist.
  • Provide compassionate, patient‑centered care, recognizing that many patients may be experiencing emotionally challenging situations; maintain empathy and professionalism in all patient interactions.
  • Maintain professional and respectful communication with patients, physicians, nursing staff, colleagues, and other interdisciplinary team members.
  • Respond to inquiries and provide education to patients, physicians, nursing staff, and the public regarding sonographic procedures, anatomy, and imaging principles.
  • Identify and troubleshoot technical equipment issues and collaborate with vendors and technical support to resolve problems efficiently.

Qualifications
  • Education/Certification:

    Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) (OBGYN) and CPR Certification.
  • Experience:

    2+ years of experience in obstetric‑specific sonography, ideally within a maternal‑fetal medicine focus; can be trained on the job.
  • Skills:

    Demonstrates expertise in obstetric and maternal fetal ultrasound techniques, including proficient use of advanced imaging equipment.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills to support accurate diagnostic imaging.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively and compassionately with patients, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Proven ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented clinical environment while maintaining high standards of accuracy and professionalism.
