Overview

Provides financial stewardship and direction to the Trinity Health Regional Health Ministry (Oregon, Idaho, and California). The VP Finance and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for the integrity of all financial information and reporting. The position participates with other senior management to address, interpret, resolve and monitor a broad and diverse range of financial, operational and strategic issues. The VP, Finance and CFO contributes to the overall management of the RHM by driving key strategies and financial performance as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

Proactively works in a collaborative manner with other members of the Senior Leadership Team and with Trinity Health System Office and Unified Service Organizations to improve financial performance and attain strategic goals and objectives. This position will be based at Saint Alphonsus in Boise, Idaho, with some travel within the region as necessary.

Responsibilities
  • Functions as the business strategy partner for the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Provide direction and leadership in reviewing the organization’s financial affairs and actively pursuing strategies and opportunities for operational improvement.
  • Support Trinity Health strategies for the creation and implementation of unified service organizations related to finance, serving as the Trinity Health advocate and client leader for operational integration (e.g., Treasury, Tax, Revenue Excellence, Unified Accounts Payable Organization). Drive accountability and partnership through engagement with RHM and USO leaders; provide transparency of information with System Office and USOs.
  • Determine appropriate reserve levels in conjunction with Trinity Health Revenue Excellence and Trinity Health Vice President/Director Financial Operations.
  • Communicate with and serve as staff to RHM governance, including the Finance and Strategy Committee.
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with the RHM medical staff; participate in Integrated Delivery System Councils.
  • Develop and oversee budgets aligned to strategic and financial plans; verify integrity of operating budgets by measuring, projecting and analyzing variances and recommending action to senior leadership.
  • Present financial information to RHM management; monitor key indicators (volume, cost, productivity) and provide recommendations to improve performance with the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Collaborate with System Office Financial Operations to monitor daily activity and support proactive cost control; lead operational efficiency analysis and planning with accountable operational leaders within the RHM.
  • Develop, implement and oversee financial operating systems, processes and controls; ensure internal controls and compliance with government and regulatory requirements; coordinate with external auditors.
  • Monitor balance sheets, cash and debt positions; manage capital spending within budget.
  • Analyze results by service line/program; develop tools to support management and drive improvements in financial performance.
  • Work with Medical Group CEO to ensure operational improvements and development of the Accountable Care Network; identify performance trends and advise on financial and strategic decisions.
  • Identify and evaluate new business opportunities focusing on growth; negotiate or advise on transactions, acquisitions, divestitures, ventures and physician relationships.
  • Provide leadership for strategic financial and capital decision making; coordinate and prioritize capital investments regionally.
  • Lead ROI analysis and development of a strategic financial plan for the Region; participate in capital planning and prioritization of investments.
  • Ensure adherence to Trinity Health financial policies and procedures and to applicable regulatory requirements and GAAP.
  • Lead educational programs and coaching for region leadership and finance teams; recruit and develop talent to maintain a highly competent regional finance team.
