Position

Summary

The Project and Application Engineer supports the Black Star Tech  division of Studsvik Americas. This role requires a technically proficient and detail-oriented person to lead and support the design (BOM, Drawing, Ordering and Inventory), application, and use Black Star Tech  technical concept development and testing.

This role will be involved with intellectual property (IP) implementation strategies and future product applications with the Black Star Tech  team members. The position entails demonstrating technical advocacy, hands-on testing and strategic development pertaining to continued innovation and application support for all Black Star Tech  products and intellectual property. The Project and Application Engineer is responsible for supporting the tracking internal Black Star Tech  inventory and assisting with ordering critical inventory for production.

Candidate must develop in-depth knowledge of Black Star Tech  product design and development techniques for eventual transition as the subject matter expert (SME). The Project and Application Engineer acts as a key interface between clients, technical teams, and stakeholders to ensure project objectives are clearly defined, technically sound, and delivered on time and within scope.

This position is on-site with a preference given to being located in Idaho Falls,  tasks will be performed on site in Idaho Falls, with frequent travel to Studsvik and Black Star Tech  partner locations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform advanced application development and hands‑on testing of products (including electrical and wiring) and foster innovative techniques and methodologies for Black Star Tech  current product base and future design development of product families and Intellectual Property (IP).
  • Manage and directly support the transition of products from R&D, to prototype development, testing, and eventual production.
  • Oversee Black Star Tech  production, product quality testing, factory acceptance testing, and applications for Sites.
  • Interface with the Black Star Tech  team and preserve design authority by maintaining and tracking product BOM’s, critical design drawings, and product owners’ manuals.
  • Manage Black Star Tech  product component inventory, coordinate ordering essential materials, and demand plans with sales, engineering, and production teams.
  • Review research initiatives and products for new products or methods to enhance IP.
  • Support training field personnel and customer product requests.
  • Identify project risks and development mitigation strategies in coordination with leadership.
  • Assist with the preparation of technical proposals, progress reports, and client communications.
  • Maintain alignment with regulatory, safety, and quality standards relevant to nuclear software tools.

Travel expectations are flexible, but would likely be 20% or less and include international travel locations.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical discipline required.
  • 3 plus years’ experience in engineering project coordination, preferably with the nuclear or energy sector required.
  • Familiarity with nuclear systems, reactor operations, and engineering analysis tools.
  • Hands‑on experience managing or supporting complex technical projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong communication, organization, teamwork, negotiation, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work across interdisciplinary teams in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Exposure to regulatory processes in nuclear engineering.
  • Hands‑on wiring and electrical engineering experience, and hardware design experience is required.
  • Product Application Development and Production Certification experience preferred.
