The L&H Crane Mechanic (Outside Machinist) plays a key role in maintaining L&H equipment to ensure reliable and safe operation. This includes the maintenance, inspection, and repair of large overhead cranes, rigging gear, equipment, and rail tracks.
Responsibilities- Extensive knowledge of methods, practices, and techniques for maintaining and repairing industrial equipment.
- Skilled in the modification, disassembly, and repair of critical components, including couplings, gearboxes, brakes, motors, mechanical systems, pumps, and hydraulic systems.
- Steady hand and good hand-eye coordination when handling very small parts.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Collaborate with engineering to diagnose and troubleshoot complex equipment issues effectively.
- Capable of climbing staircases and ladder access points regularly and working comfortably on elevated surfaces.
- Expertise in the use of precision instruments such as torque wrenches, micrometers, and calipers, with accurate documentation skills.
- Demonstrates a proactive, can‑do approach to work with the ability to work independently when needed.
- Capable of initiating and completing projects with minimal oversight.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with other work group organizations.
- Standard schedule is dayshift, 9/80 or 4/10.
- May require shift work or mandatory overtime to support program needs.
- Must qualify as L&H Crane Mechanic, Contamination Worker, Lock‑Out/Tag‑Out, Fall Protection User, Manlift Operator, and General Handler (additional radiological and environmental qualifications as determined by supervision).
- High school diploma or equivalent with four years of relevant experience performing mechanical troubleshooting and repairs on industrial machinery, or comparable military mechanical and technical experience.
- Experience with overhead crane maintenance and load testing, including knowledge of mechanical crane systems.
- Associate degree in mechanical, industrial, or automotive technology with three years of experience performing mechanical troubleshooting and repairs.
