Our Physical Security Engineers work on a variety of projects assigned by a Department Manager or Lead Engineer, contributing from preliminary assessments through design and delivery.
All selected candidates will be located anywhere within the United States; we primarily seek those near a Jacobs U.S. office but will hire the best talent nationally.
ResponsibilitiesIn this role you will collaborate with clients and our security technology team, designing architectural and operational security solutions for buildings and data centers.
- Conduct preliminary assessments and create concepts.
- Perform vulnerability and risk assessments using accepted methodologies.
- Identify potential conflicts or inconsistencies with architectural, civil, electrical, and instrumentation teams.
- Lead and support design efforts, producing schematics, schedules, and plan drawings.
- Perform calculations for video storage, bandwidth usage, and power loads for security systems.
- Coordinate cross‑discipline activities and resolve internal and external issues.
- Produce drawings and specifications; ensure compliance with construction standards.
- Manage and prioritize concurrent projects to meet delivery deadlines.
- Estimate and schedule mid‑to‑large‑scale project design effort.
- Engage with vendors and provide customer and vendor accessibility support.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field; master’s degree preferred.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license required.
- 12+ years’ experience in planning, designing, and commissioning physical security systems or communication networks; project‑management experience is a plus.
- Professional security certifications (e.g., CISSP, CPP, PSP) are a plus.
- In‑depth knowledge of physical security systems: video surveillance, access control, biometric systems, intrusion detection, and leading manufacturers.
- Strong understanding of network technologies and cybersecurity principles.
- Exceptional problem‑solving abilities and collaborative teamwork skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Bluebeam and design collaboration tools.
- Experience with Revit, ACC, BIM
360, AutoCAD, and/or Micro Station. - Knowledge of CSI design and construction specifications.
- Ability to evaluate emerging security technologies, analyzing trade‑offs such as multi‑megapixel cameras vs. thermal imaging or ground‑based radar vs. Lidar for perimeter intrusion detection.
- Experience determining trade‑offs and selecting appropriate technologies.
- Technical expertise in physical security and project delivery.
- Mentoring junior staff and leading projects are highly valued.
- Design management experience and experience in data center security preferred.
