Linux Systems Engineer & Middleware is responsible for the architecture, deployment, and optimization of our open-source stack and enterprise Linux environments. This role ensures that our application-hosting platforms (Kafka, Apache, Nginx) are secure, high-performing, and resilient through advanced automation and proactive systems management.
Technical Core Competencies
1. Linux Operating System Management
Installation & Config: Expertise in deploying enterprise distributions including Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL) and Red Hat (RHEL) .
System Internals: Proficient in storage partitioning, managing boot processes (GRUB/systemd), and fine-tuning system services.
User & Security: Managing centralized user/group identities, setting granular POSIX file permissions , and ownership (Sudoers/Root management).
Package Management: Lifecycle management of software using YUM, DNF, or APT to ensure consistent environment versions.
2. Middleware & Messaging Services
Web Servers: Advanced configuration and hardening of Apache HTTP Server and Nginx .
Event Streaming: Administration of Apache Kafka clusters, including managing producers, consumers, and cluster health.
Web Services: Managing HTTPS/SSL/TLS certificates and ensuring secure communication for all web-facing services.
3. Network & Security Operations
Networking: Configuring IP addressing, SSH protocols, and managing host-based firewalls (iptables/firewalld).
Vulnerability Management: Proactive Vulnerability Patching and applying critical security fixes as per compliance requirements.
NFS & Storage: Managing Network File Systems (NFS) for cross-server file sharing and data persistence.
4. Performance, Monitoring & Automation
System Health: Real-time monitoring using top, htop, iostat, and sar to analyze CPU, Memory, and Disk I/O bottlenecks.
Scripting: Utilizing Bash or Python to automate repetitive maintenance tasks, parse logs, and manage text-based configurations.
Capacity Planning: Forecasting resource needs to ensure the environment scales ahead of business demand.
Key Responsibilities
High Availability & DR: Leading DR Switchover/Failover testing and maintenance to ensure zero business interruption.
Environment Provisioning: Setting up new Dev, UAT, and Production environments from scratch based on best practices.
Reporting: Providing monthly analytical reports on Availability, Change Management, Incidents, and Problem Management .
Housekeeping: Performing routine "hygiene" tasks, including log rotation, disk cleanup, and service audits.
Candidate Requirements
Experience:
5+ years in Linux Administration (RHEL/OEL) and Middleware management.
Certification: RHCSA/RHCE (Red Hat Certified) or Oracle Linux Certified Professional is highly preferred.
Analytical
Skills:
Strong ability to perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on complex service failures.
Availability: Participation in an on-call rotation for critical production support.
