Systems Administrator

The Systems Administrator will support and maintain computer systems, hardware, software, and infrastructure while providing technical assistance for transit scheduling systems such as HASTUS or Trapeze.

The role includes system provisioning, installation, configuration, maintenance, and daily monitoring. The position also involves supporting cloud migration initiatives and ensuring systems comply with organizational policies and standards.

• Learn and support the HASTUS system for Bus and Rail Scheduling Operations teams.
• Review security scan results and develop mitigation steps for server and application-level vulnerabilities.
• Manage provisioning, installation, configuration, and maintenance of hardware, software, and infrastructure.
• Assist and lead teams in migrating existing environments to cloud platforms such as Azure or OCI.
• Ensure all systems comply with agency policies, standards, and guidelines.
• Perform system administration, engineering, provisioning, operations, maintenance, and research to support ongoing improvement.
• Conduct daily system monitoring to verify hardware integrity, resource usage, system availability, and process health.
• Review system and application logs and verify successful completion of scheduled jobs, including backups.
• Perform regular security monitoring to identify potential intrusions.
• Execute daily backup operations and manage file archival or purification.
• Manage user accounts, including creation, modification, and deletion.
• Provide Tier III and other technical support as needed.
• Diagnose and recover from hardware and software failures while communicating effectively with stakeholders.
• Apply OS patches and upgrades and update administrative tools and utilities.
• Configure and add new services as needed.
• Maintain operational documentation and contribute to performance reporting for capacity planning.

• 8+ years of experience managing Windows and Linux systems.
• 8+ years of experience installing, upgrading, and configuring application software and hardware.
• 8+ years of experience in server and network troubleshooting and technical support.
• Strong problem-solving skills and effective communication abilities.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
• Master’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.

• Expertise in cloud technologies such as Azure and OCI, including experience migrating environments to the cloud.
• Familiarity with transit scheduling systems, particularly HASTUS or Trapeze.
