As a Plant Engineering Tool & Die Technician, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Fabrication, modification and repair of plastic injection molds, mold parts, inserts in scheduled and emergency situations.
- Laser welding and processing of the tooling components while working closely with other toolmakers, molding and engineering groups to define and implement modifications and improvements in support of continuous improvement efforts.
This position requires driving a company vehicle. The role will require a pre‑employment and ongoing review of your motor‑vehicle history for candidates who are offered and hired.
Your Skills and ExpertiseTo set you up for success from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Two‑year technical diploma in Tool & Diepled / mold making; 5‑years’ experience.
- Current, valid driver’s license.

- Interpersonal and communication skills with all stakeholders.
- Computer skills.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50+ lbs.
- Assertiveness to challenge 3M and non‑3M people regarding policy discrepancies.
- Previous experience building or repairing plastic injection molds; hot runner manifold systems preferred.
- Fabricate, modify, troubleshoot, repair and perform maintenance on plastic mold and mold inserts per prints, verbal instructions and/or sketches in scheduled or emergency situations.
- Excellent customer and communication skills, working with all groups.
- Safe working knowledge of hoist and rigging.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Use of root‑cause analysis methods and innovation to improve tooling performance and reliability.
- Work‑schedule flexibility and overtime as expected.
- 1‑month interval molding support direct contact; attend priority meetings and communicate the molding department’s priorities to the Tool & Die group regarding PMs, mold issues and improvements.
- Evaluation, troubleshooting and repair of molds while in the press; follow press status reports and take responsibility for repairing/troubles conserved equipment.
- Advanced working knowledge of tooling electrical components.
- Assistance in training maintenance and production personnel regarding proper use, maintenance and repair of tool and die equipment.
- Computer skills for developing and maintaining tool & die documentation, records, prints, SOPs and preventive maintenance'ọnprograms.
The starting rate of pay forvação $44.82 per hour. The range represents a good‑faith estimate. Compensation may vary based on candidate’s skills, training, experience and location.
