The Impact You’ll Make in this RoleAs a Plant Engineering Machinist, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Managing machine parts for production, new equipment, and crib stock.
- Welding, heat treating, and using fine measuring instruments.
- Reading blueprints, including experience with CAD and CAM software.
- Communicating with Engineering and production customers.
- Understanding materials for machining and grinding.
- Designing tools and fixtures as required.
- Operating and programming CNC equipment.
- Setting up and operating manual mills, lathes, and precision grinding equipment.
- Working a flexible schedule and overtime as required.
This position requires driving a company vehicle, which will require a pre‑employment and ongoing review of motor vehicle history for candidates who are offered and hired.
Your Skills and ExpertiseTo set you up for success from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Two‑year degree in Machine Tool Trades.
- Completion of a Machining Skills Work Sample.
- Current, valid driver’s license.

- Good customer relations and effective communication skills; ability to work as a team player.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule and overtime as necessary.
- High regard for and understanding of 3M safety practices.
- Ability to apply interpersonal and communication skills with diverse stakeholders.
- Computer skills required.
- Assertiveness to challenge processes and policies when discrepancies arise.
- Ability to work safely following 3M Safety Practices.
- Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs.
- Communication skills to fabricate, modify, and repair parts using prints, verbal instructions, and sketches.
- Starting rate of pay: $36.65 per hour. This is a good faith estimate; final compensation may vary based on experience, training, location, and other factors.
- Eligible for a range of benefits including medical, dental, vision, health savings, dependent care flex, disability, life insurance, voluntary benefits, paid absences, and retirement plans.
May include up to 5% domestic travel.
