Healthcare Nursing, RN Nurse
POSITION PURPOSE
Under general supervision of the Charge Nurse, the Staff RN provides professional nursing skills utilizing the nursing process in the delivery of patient care. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the care for assigned patients. Serves as a patient advocate within the health care system. Responsible for performing patient care requiring specialized training and skill. Acquires and maintains knowledge and skill required to perform patient care in a specialty service/area.
Accountable for assuring the safety, comfort, care, and treatment of patients according to legal, ethical, professional and institutional standards. Participates in the hospital's Quality Improvement and Service Excellence programs. Demonstrates understanding of the philosophy and objectives, and adheres to policies and procedures of the department and organization.
Essential job functions include the following responsibilities, performed with a commitment to high-quality patient care and collaboration with the health care team.
- Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, provide, document and evaluate care.
- Assessment: conducts ongoing data collection to establish nursing diagnoses and predict outcomes.
- Nursing Diagnosis and Outcome Identification: coordinates assessment data, determines diagnoses and sets patient goals.
- Coordinates and plans delivery of nursing care with a multidisciplinary team and administers clinical decisions, collaborating with the health care team to develop a plan of care to attain desired outcomes.
- Delivers appropriate care to patients at a competent level and implements interventions identified in the Plan of Care.
- Evaluates patient progress toward outcomes and communicates effectively with physicians and team members.
- Provides patient/family teaching based on individual needs.
- administers and reconciles medications appropriately.
- Adheres to infection prevention protocols.
- Demonstrates understanding of patient rights, confidentiality, informed consent and privacy.
- Demonstrates adaptability, problem solving and professional behavior.
- Participates in program evaluation, process improvement, and client-centered outcomes.
- Promotes professional growth by meeting mandatory/continuing education requirements; may serve as preceptor or mentor to staff.
- Participates in survey readiness and ensures department compliance with regulatory standards.
- Abides by the organization’s Code of Conduct and maintains patient confidentiality and PHI handling.
- Maintains a safe work environment and reports safety concerns.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Education:
Graduate of a school of professional nursing. - Experience:
One year of Med/Surg experience preferred. - Licensure/Certification:
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas, or immediately eligible. Basic Life Support certification required within 30 days of employment;
Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification required within 90 days of employment.
All positions of Huntsville Memorial Hospital are part of an interdisciplinary team and involve effective interaction with hospital staff, medical staff, patients and visitors.
Physical Demands and Working ConditionsFrequent: standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling and reaching. Occasional: sitting, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling and twisting. Visual and hearing acuity required; color vision required for detecting changes in skin color and medicine solutions. Work is mostly inside with good ventilation and comfortable temperature. Potential exposure to chemicals, moving parts, electric shock, radiant energy, communicable diseases and blood borne pathogens.
