Our Paralegal Studies program prepares students for success in the legal profession through practical training, real‑world experience, career‑ready skills and an industry‑relevant curriculum. We are seeking a practicing paralegal, legal professional, or attorney to teach online courses in our accelerated Paralegal Studies program. Deliver hands‑on training aligned with employer needs.
Position OverviewTeach courses in our Paralegal Studies program, helping students develop knowledge and skills to excel in legal environments. Courses may include Legal Research & Writing, Law Office Technology, Law Office Management, Mediation, Civil Litigation and/or Family Law, depending on the candidate’s specialty and program needs.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver engaging, hands‑on instruction in Paralegal Studies courses.
- Develop syllabi, lesson plans, and assignments aligned with program objectives.
- Provide constructive feedback and support to students.
- Stay current with legal trends, technology, and industry standards.
- Collaborate with other faculty to enhance curriculum and student outcomes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Legal Studies, Criminal Justice, or a related field. (Master’s or Juris Doctor preferred.)
- Experience as a paralegal, legal assistant, college instructor, or attorney.
- Strong commitment to the mission of Sam Houston State University.
- Knowledge of legal procedures, research, and documentation.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Experience with online/hybrid teaching platforms (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard).
- Familiarity with best practices for online learning and willingness to adopt Blackboard.
- Commitment to quality teaching, student success, and completion.
- Ability to use technology in teaching and learning.
- Positive and effective working relationships with students, employees, and the public.
- Strong detail orientation and ability to multi‑task with little direct supervision.
- Cooperative team player in various working environments.
- Fluency in writing and speaking English.
