The Department of Human Sciences at Sam Houston State University invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor of Practice in Fashion Merchandising. The Department offers a 100% online Bachelor of Science and a minor in Fashion Merchandising, with Fashion Merchandising majors required to minor in Business.
Responsibilities- Teach courses in the Fashion Merchandising program, particularly courses related to the social and psychological aspects of dress, product development, branding, trend forecasting, and promotions.
- Maintain and develop industry partnerships; participate in department, college, university, and professional activities.
- Assist the Program Coordinator and Chair with student education and recruitment; advise and mentor students in internship and career development.
The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree or PhD in Fashion or Apparel Merchandising, Textiles and Clothing, or related field.
Experience RequiredExperience teaching at the university level; professional industry experience; and a willingness to obtain online teaching certification at Sam Houston State University. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with experience and training.
Other Requirements- Preferred qualifications include:
Minimum of three years teaching at the university level; doctoral degree. Minimum of three years of professional industry experience. - Proficiency in online LMS platforms such as Canvas or Blackboard; experience with synchronous and asynchronous online course delivery.
- Ability to advise and mentor student groups, competitions, and scholarships. The ability to recruit students, engage community partners, and develop and maintain industry partnerships.
