Overview
Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine is seeking an experienced family medicine or internal medicine physician to join as an Assistant/Associate Professor of Clinical Primary Care Faculty. The role is primarily clinical with teaching responsibilities in a multispecialty clinic affiliated with the osteopathic medical school. The successful candidate will develop individualized healthcare programs based on patient history, provide continuous healthcare support, and collaborate with clinical staff and other academic clinical faculty.
Responsibilities- Provide clinical care in a multispecialty clinic, building relationships with patients and referring to external specialists when appropriate.
- Collaborate with clinical staff and other academic faculty to support an evolving clinical practice.
- Incorporate teaching for medical students, residents, and allied health students in the clinic setting.
- Contribute to medical education for pre-clinical students (0.1-0.2 FTE) and participate in college service such as interviewing and committee work.
- Operate within a 0.8-0.9 FTE clinical schedule, with the remainder attributed to teaching and educational activities.
- Engage in performance measurement and participate in an incentive plan to support revenue production.
Osteopathic degree preferred, but physicians with MD degrees will be considered if they demonstrate a focus on holistic care aligned with osteopathic philosophy.
Experience Required For The Position- Current Texas State Medical License or ability to obtain and maintain one.
- Current and ongoing board certification in family or internal medicine.
- Completion of a 3-year residency in family medicine or internal medicine.
- Training in areas such as general outpatient medicine, pediatrics (preferred), surgery, neurology, psychiatry, outpatient gynecology, and community medicine.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills; caring, compassionate and attentive demeanor; strong interpersonal skills; and excellent quantitative skills.
- Osteopathic manipulation skills; well-developed communication skills. Background in medical education and experience in pre-clinical and clinical teaching are preferred.
- Academic rank and salary commensurate with experience and training.
This position integrates clinical teaching into patient care and may be eligible for appointment as an Assistant Professor (non-tenure track) in the Department of Primary Care and Clinical Medicine.
