Overview
Position: Principal Faculty (Clinical Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, 12-month appointment) in the proposed Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) Program, College of Health Sciences, Sam Houston State University (SHSU).
The Principal Faculty will report to the Program Director and collaborate with MPAS faculty and staff to support the program’s mission and maintain compliance with ARC-PA accreditation standards.

Responsibilities- Provide student instruction and teaching for didactic and/or clinical courses as assigned by the Program Director.
- Perform administrative duties, including participating in the admission process, scheduling clinical rotations, and assisting the clinical team with program evaluation during the clinical phase.
- Maintain data and assessments to prepare reports for accreditation purposes.
- Offer academic mentoring and advising to learners.
- Deliver classroom learning experiences and clinical skills instruction in collaboration with the Clinical Coordinator, focusing on essential medical and clinical science topics aligned to learners’ qualifications.
- Collaborate with the Department Chair, Director of the MPAS Program, Medical Director, and other principal faculty to manage the curriculum and ensure high-quality instruction.
- Supervise students in didactic and/or clinical courses and activities.
- Assist with admissions (application review, selection, and interviews) and with course design and implementation within the curriculum.
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of student performance and provide academic counseling and advising.
- Participate in service to the department, college, University, and community.
- Assist in the evaluation and ongoing development of the curriculum, program mission, goals, and competencies; ensure remedial instruction is available as needed.
Degree Requirements:
- Physician Assistant — Master’s degree from an ARC-PA accredited program.
- Or:
Physician — Doctor of Medicine/Osteopathy.
Experience Requirements:
- Physician Assistant: Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience. Candidates must be NCCPA-certified and have current Texas PA licensure, or be eligible for licensure in Texas.
- Physician: Full unrestricted MD license or eligibility to obtain such licensure in Texas.
All candidates should possess excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work effectively as a team member. Knowledge and ability to comply with accreditation standards related to evaluation and assessment are preferred.
