Equipment Operator II; Grade 8; Maintenance​/Construction; Continuous

Overview

The City of Huntsville’s Public Works Services Department is seeking qualified applicants to fill the Equipment Operator II position(s). The Construction/Maintenance Division provides essential services to City residents, including maintaining water flow to prevent flooding, erosion, and property damage. The division includes heavy equipment operators, skilled workers, and truck drivers who demolish old or vacant buildings and install new roads and parking areas with drainage projects.

Equipment Operator II is skilled work involving the operation of heavy-duty tandem trucks and/or tri-axle trucks, or similar equipment. Incumbents perform heavy manual labor when not operating equipment, may haul supplies and materials, perform routine equipment maintenance, and perform heavy manual labor as needed.

• Operate medium-sized heavy equipment as assigned (tandem and/or tri-axle dump trucks and rollers).
• Haul supplies and materials to and from work sites; follow regular routes.
• Perform minor maintenance on equipment.
• Perform heavy manual labor as required.

• High school diploma or GED; relevant experience operating medium-sized equipment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience is desired.
• Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s license. Class A with Auto Transmission allowed.
• Skills test will be administered.
