Position: Motor Vehicle Operator (CYS) NA-06

Overview

This position is with Child and Youth Services at the Redstone Arsenal as part of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) child care program. Eligible employees can receive childcare fee discounts as follows:

  • First child – 100% fee discount (all CYS employees).
  • Second and subsequent children – at least 25% fee discount (all CYS employees).
Eligibility
  • U.S. Citizens, Nationals, or individuals who owe allegiance to the U.S.; non-U.S. nationals who have resided in the U.S. or a U.S. territory for 3 or more continuous years immediately preceding the start of federal employment.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must hold a valid, current driver’s license and be qualified to operate a 15‑passenger vehicle.
  • Must meet all background and health requirements set forth by the Department of the Army.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and follow efficient, consistent, and safe bus routes for routine trips.
  • Ensure the safety and well‑being of children, youth, and adults during transportation and field trips.
  • Practice bus evacuation procedures with passengers on a monthly basis.
  • Arrange for and ensure completion of routine bus maintenance (e.g., oil changes) and transport the vehicle to and from maintenance facilities.
  • Complete a comprehensive written inspection of the bus daily, reporting any concerns to the supervisor before transporting passengers.
Requirements
  • Direct deposit and valid Social Security Card required at the time of appointment.
  • One‑year probationary period may be required.
  • Successful completion of an employment verification (E‑Verify) check.
  • Completion of pre‑employment background checks in accordance with AR 215‑3 and a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation.
  • Current health assessment documenting good mental and physical health, freedom from communicable diseases, and required immunizations, including annual influenza vaccination.
  • Availability to work irregular hours, evenings, and weekends, both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Mandatory drug testing required.
  • Successful completion of all annual training requirements within prescribed time frames.
  • Mandatory reporting of all suspected incidents of child abuse or neglect.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs and to walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
  • Ability to communicate in English at a level to safely perform the duties described.
  • Experience in performing duties related to child or youth transportation and safety.
  • Proof of education must be submitted with the application along with a copy of a current valid driver’s license.
  • Documents accepted for proof of education include a high school diploma, transcript, GED certificate, college transcript, or college degree.
