Position: Software Engineer – GMD Weapons Systems (GWS)

Become a part of something IMPACT‑ful! Ground Missile Defense (GMD) is the heart of the Missile Defense System and a key element of our nation’s defense against ballistic missile attacks. The GMD Weapon System (GWS) processes data from multiple sensors to identify and characterize the inbound ballistic missile threat, plans the best defensive solution, and launches the intercepting missiles to negate the threat.

Work

The Software Engineer responsibilities include software development and support of the Missile Defense Agency’s (MDA’s) Ground‑Based Mid‑course Defense (GMD) program. You will be responsible for developing and implementing software updates that best meet changing customer needs for new and existing features, collaborating with team members, and working in a cross‑functional agile scrum team.
General activities :

  • Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions with ingenuity and creativity.
  • Collaborates with other software and systems engineers to determine computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems with program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions.
  • Ensure software standards are met.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding and wide application of software development related technical principles, theories, and concepts. Show general knowledge of other related disciplines.

  • Support advanced portions of the lifecycle of software development to include requirements definition, integration, and deployment.
  • Prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish project results with limited oversight and direction.
  • Apply “systems thinking” to ensure developed products are scalable, maintainable, and meet end‑user needs.
  • Communicate openly and effectively with teammates and customer representatives.

Basic

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 2 years of related experience
  • Experience developing embedded and object oriented software in C++
  • Experience using Cmake
  • Experience with Gtest
  • Experience developing software in a Linux (preferably RHEL) environment
  • Ability and willingness to travel 10% to support business needs.
  • Active Secret Clearance
Desired skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering or related field
  • Missile Defense domain knowledge
  • Knowledge of SysUML
  • Familiarity with Atlassian and Agile software development practices
  • Security + Certification
  • A current active in‑scope U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance

Ability to Telecommute:
No telecommuting. Ability to work remotely:
No telecommuting. The work associated with this position will be performed onsite full‑time at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.

Work Schedule Information

Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five‑day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our paid time off benefits.

Work Schedule

9×80 every other Friday off. Select the telework classification for this position. Employee will work on-site full-time.

Security Clearance Information

This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a U.S. Citizen for consideration. Active Secret clearance is required. Experience developing embedded and object oriented software in C++ required. Security+ certification and Top Secret clearance are desired.
