Lead Electrician – U.S. Space & Rocket Center – Huntsville‑Decatur, AL

The purpose of this position is to lead the inspection, repair, installation, modification, and maintenance of electrical/electronic systems, circuits, and equipment under general supervision.

• Lead and oversee the understanding and application of blueprints and technical diagrams.
• Supervise the installation and maintenance of wiring, control, lighting systems, and fire alarm systems.
• Inspect electrical components, such as transformers and circuit breakers, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
• Diagnose electrical problems using a variety of testing devices such as multimeters and ohmmeters.
• Direct the repair or replacement of wiring, equipment, or fixtures using hand tools and power tools.
• Ensure adherence to state and local building regulations based on the National Electric Code.
• Manage work orders and scheduled maintenance using Computer Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) (current software is eSpace Work Order & Asset Management).
• Coordinate availability for night or weekend work on a rotating basis to address emergency needs of customers.
• Meet with customers and contractors to discuss requirements for new installations or modifications to current installations.
• Provide guidance and training to junior electricians and apprentices.

• Provide leadership and direction to junior electricians and apprentices.

• Education:
  
  Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent.
• Preferred:
  Valid Journeyman Electrical License from Alabama or a reciprocal state.

• 2–5 years of experience in the field working under a Licensed Master Electrician is required.
• Experience in a supervisory or lead role is preferred.

  Must possess knowledge of Windows‑based operating systems, including some basic associated software applications.

• Physical Requirements:
  
  Walking and climbing (stairs) to access other departments and buildings on and off‑site.
• Carrying and lifting supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds to waist height.
• Bending, kneeling, and reaching to access all areas of the Rocket Center.
• Sight, reading, wrist movement, and feeling to operate computer terminal, handle documents, operate automobile for travel, and interact with vendors.
• Talking and hearing to communicate with supervisors, co‑workers, and guests in person and over the telephone.

• Must be authorized to work in the United States.

• Working environment is both inside and outside.

• Full‑time position with potential for night or weekend shifts on a rotating basis.
