Position Summary:United Trades of America is seeking a hardworking and dependable Railroad Track Laborer to join a mobile crew responsible for constructing, altering, repairing, maintaining, and demolishing railroad tracks and related structures. This position involves heavy manual labor, using hand tools and equipment to complete a variety of tasks under the direction of the Track Foreman. Candidates must be comfortable with physically demanding tasks and able to work in high-production, high-stress environments based on client needs.
Key Responsibilities:- Use hand tools (tie tongs, rail forks, lining bars, etc.) to move and position track materials.
- Attach rails to ties with spike mauls or spike drivers; remove spikes as needed.
- Install and remove railroad crossties around track structures.
- Connect and disconnect rails using specialized tools or welding materials.
- Handle and clean ballast with shovels, picks, and forks; tamp and level ballast as needed.
- Raise and adjust tracks, turnouts, crossings, and rails with jacks.
- Cut materials with oxygen-acetylene torches, rail saws, or other cutting tools.
- Operate drilling tools (gasoline, pneumatic, hydraulic, electric) for track modifications.
- Work alongside heavy equipment, assisting with material handling and directing movement.
- Participate in safety meetings and comply with all PPE requirements.
- Step in to supervise the crew in the absence of the Track Foreman.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills within a crew setting.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and visual instructions and signals.
- Quick adaptability to job duties and ability to identify and avoid potential hazards.
- Must be at least 18 years old and capable of lifting 100 lbs.
- Willing to travel to various job sites, including those requiring overnight stays and short‑notice mobilization.
- Able to work in diverse weather conditions and terrain, covering up to two miles per day.
- Comfortable working independently when required.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license.
- Prior experience in railroad or heavy construction/maintenance.
