The Traffic Control Technician is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic around construction zones, accident sites, and other road disruptions. This role requires a high level of vigilance, communication skills, and the ability to work in dynamic and potentially hazardous environments.
What you will do:- Set Up Traffic Control Measures:
Install and remove traffic control devices such as signs, cones, barricades, and flagging equipment according to project requirements and safety standards. - Monitor Traffic Flow:
Actively observe and manage the flow of traffic to ensure the safety of workers, pedestrians, and motorists. - Communicate Effectively:
Provide clear and assertive instructions to drivers and pedestrians, ensuring understanding and compliance with traffic control measures. - Coordinate with Team:
Work closely with construction crews, law enforcement, and other relevant personnel to coordinate traffic control activities. - Maintain Equipment:
Regularly inspect and maintain traffic control equipment to ensure it is in good working condition. - Document Incidents:
Record and report any incidents or violations related to traffic control to the appropriate authorities.
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Exposure to loud noises and potentially hazardous situations.
- May require working evenings, weekends, and holidays depending on project needs.
- Critical Thinking:
Ability to assess situations quickly and make sound decisions to ensure safety and efficiency. - Coordination:
Skilled in coordinating movements and actions to direct traffic effectively. - Assertiveness:
Confident in providing clear, firm instructions to drivers and pedestrians. - Communication:
Excellent verbal communication skills for interacting with the public and team members. - Concentration:
Ability to stay focused and alert for extended periods, especially in high-traffic or noisy environments. - Problem-Solving:
Quick to identify and resolve issues that arise during traffic control operations. - Attention to Detail:
Meticulous in setting up and monitoring traffic control measures to ensure compliance with safety standards. - Comfort in Moving Traffic:
Comfortable working in and around moving traffic, with an awareness of personal and public safety.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Physical Stamina:
Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy objects, and perform physically demanding tasks. - Tolerance to Loud Noises:
Comfortable working in noisy environments with loud machinery and traffic.
- Previous experience in construction, trucking, or a related field is preferred.

The posted salary or pay compensation ranges are approximate and dependent on applicable experience and qualifications. Upper ranges are flexible.
