About the NASA Postdoctoral Program

The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities for highly talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA‑affiliated research institute. These one‑to‑three‑year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA’s missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology.

Interagency Implementation and Advanced Concepts Team (IMPACT)

IMPACT at Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) supports the NASA Earth Science Data Systems program. It seeks to integrate NASA’s Earth observation data into decision‑making, monitor trends across data science and information technology fields, and develop new solutions for Earth science data management and dissemination. Research focuses on novel computational methods and IT for acquisition, storage, processing, discovery, interchange, analysis, and visualization of Earth science data and information.

Available NPP opportunities within the MSFC IMPACT group include:

• Development of innovative data science applications for information extraction from large data archives
• Assessment of new and disruptive technologies to enhance the efficiency of NASA Earth science data systems
• Development of machine learning techniques to solve complex Earth science problems using computing technologies
• Improvement in user experience with NASA data and services to lower barriers of entry for all users to effectively leverage complex scientific datasets
• Development of large‑scale data analysis and processing pipelines in a cloud computing environment
