The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) delivers comprehensive direct patient care and scholarly practice. The APP obtains complete patient histories, performs thorough physical examinations, orders and conducts diagnostic testing, diagnoses illness, prescribes pharmacological and other treatments, and promotes health maintenance. The APP also assumes accountability for indirect care responsibilities supporting patient care, including staff and student education, clinical research, program development, and quality improvement.
EducationRequired
Completion of a Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant Master of Science program from an accredited college or university.
License, Certification and RegistrationSuccessful completion of a National Certification Exam for NP/PA, current registration through the Alabama Board of Nursing and/or Board of Medical Examiners, and approval of the Huntsville Hospital credentialing board. Basic Life Support is required before the conclusion of the orientation period;
Advanced Cardiac Life Support is preferred.
Minimum 3 years full‑time ER or Critical Care RN and/or CRNP/PA experience recommended.
AdditionalSkills and Abilities
Excellent communication skills, the ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment, prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly. Knowledge of all equipment and materials required for procedures described in the Surgical Service Line Policy/Procedure Manual and Nursing Service Procedure Manual. Department‑specific competencies must be completed within the provisional period and maintained current.
