Prepares patients for surgery by performing diagnostic tests required by the surgeon and anesthesiologist, documenting past medical/surgical history and current home medications, and reporting abnormal results to the appropriate person (surgeon, nurse practitioner, anesthesia evaluator, etc.). The pre‑admission RN also prepares patients for the cath‑lab and other hospital admissions.
Responsibilities- Perform and document diagnostic tests for surgery and cath‑lab admission.
- Record patient history and current medications accurately.
- Communicate abnormal findings to surgeons, NPs, or anesthesia evaluators.
- Assist patients in transitioning to the operating room and other inpatient units.
- Education: BSN preferred. Graduate of an accredited nursing school with a current Alabama license required.
- Experience: Preferably three years of varied clinical experience as an RN.
- Skills & Abilities: Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment; manage situations involving families, visitors, and patients of varied ages; positive attitude toward diverse patient populations; proficient computer skills; diplomacy, time‑management, efficiency, organization, and detail orientation; effective verbal and written communication.
