Overview
AICU is an 8-bed Medical/Surgical Adult ICU at the Huntsville Hospital for Women/Children campus. Orientation consists of working with an experienced staff and length of orientation is typically 6-12 weeks depending on experience. AICU is the only adult critical care unit at the Women/Children campus. The AICU offers a challenging workflow for RN’s and receives a variety of patients that includes primarily critical medical patients, but also antepartum, postpartum, GYN oncology, GYN, ENT, and any adult patient at WC that requires intensive monitoring.
The RN’s in AICU are trained to care for a variety of critical situations including hemorrhage, critical OB, CRRT, ventilators, and titrating drips. Four beds are wired for fetal monitoring and monitored by an L&D RN on our campus for critical Antepartum patients. AICU RNs are responsible for all Rapid Responses and Code Blue situations for the adult patient population staff works closely with health care providers to deliver excellent care and compassion.
The team has opportunities to participate in Shared Governance, Clinical Ladder programs, and CEU offerings available online & at Corporate University.
- Provide direct care for a variety of critical adult patients in the AICU, including management of ventilators and titration of drips.
- Respond to Rapid Responses and Code Blue events for the adult patient population at WC.
- Collaborate with health care providers to deliver high-quality and compassionate care.
- Support antepartum and other obstetric-related critical care needs as part of the AICU team.
- Be engaged in ongoing education and professional development through Shared Governance, Clinical Ladder, and CEU offerings.
- Education: Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing.
- License, Certification and/or Registration: Current Alabama or Multi-state Nursing License required. BLS for Healthcare Providers must be obtained during the orientation period. ACLS, PALS, or NRP as required for critical care areas based on patient population.
- Experience: New RN graduates accepted.
- Additional Skill/Abilities: Excellent communication skills with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing and changing tasks as needed. Department-specific competencies must be completed within the provisional period.
