Join our team of Laser Operators in our Fabrication department on 2nd shift. The starting rate is 20+ per hour depending on education and experience, with a 3.00 per hour shift differential. 2nd shift hours are 2:30 PM – 12:45 PM.

Under moderate supervision, fabricates metal products from sheet and structural steel according to work orders, verbal instructions, and blueprints. Creates layout and outlines sequence of operations, applying knowledge of trigonometry, stock allowances for thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and the physical properties of metal. Plans fabrication processes following specifications and uses knowledge gained by experience. Completes first article inspections and ensures that fabricated parts, components and products meet tolerances.

Sets up and operates laser cutting equipment; may set up and operate brake, rollers, shears, and drill presses. Operates laser machines by setting up, recalling programs, placing material, and positioning the cutting head; adjusts machine settings based on job requirements.

Performs routine maintenance on equipment and conducts general maintenance of the table. Examines work pieces and verifies dimensions and squareness using protractor, tape measure and other tools. Verifies position with measuring instruments, determines reference points and computes layout dimensions. Completes first article inspection and verifies completed work pieces for defects, such as chipped edges or marred surfaces, to control scrap waste and sort defective pieces.

May operate forklift and overhead crane/hoist and air tools. Completes all documentation accurately and timely and is responsible for the movement and proper storage of material or product.

Education and Experience:

• Able to understand verbal and written instructions. Reading and comprehension of work-related materials.
• Ability to read blueprints, sketches or drawings.
• Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications. Ability to read a tape measure, square and use/read dial calipers.
• Able to plan and organize work from bill of materials and production schedules.
• Able to perform measurements using tape measure, protractor, square, calipers, and other measuring devices.
• Good mechanical aptitude.
• Able to work overtime and/or weekends as scheduled.
• Able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including steel toe shoes, hearing protection devices and safety glasses.
• High school diploma or GED certificate preferred.
• Minimum of 1 year operating a laser press (Trumpf or Bystronic preferred).
