Overview
The Prototyping Manufacturing and Integration Division (PMID) of Applied Research Associates (ARA), Inc., has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Shop Floor Technician working on-site at our Huntsville, AL facility. The Shop Floor Technician is responsible for supporting the manufacturing of mechanical prototype devices and/or products. Responsibilities include operating machinery such as forklift, pallet jacks and various hand tools used in the production process.
Under direct supervision, the Shop Floor Technician will support the logistics and transportation team performing various shop floor duties. Must have the ability to read technical manuals including blueprints and schematics.
- Support the manufacturing of mechanical prototype devices and/or products.
- Operate machinery and equipment as needed, including forklift, pallet jacks, and various hand tools used in the production process.
- Assist the logistics and transportation team with shop floor duties under direct supervision.
- Read technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
- Maintain a clean, safe shop and yard; adhere to safe work practices.
- Safely utilize tools and hardware using standard fabrication shop practices; assist forklift drivers in transporting materials as needed.
- High school diploma or GED, plus advanced training and 2–3 years’ experience in manufacturing.
- Applied working knowledge of using hand tools, power tools, and measurement tools.
- Familiarity with mechanical systems and safe work practices.
- Ability to function as part of a team and to sit/stand for long periods; ability to lift up to 50 lbs independently, and more with assistance.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (safety glasses, respirator, safety shoes, hearing protection, and hand protection) as required.
- U.S. citizenship.
This position will require a background check and the ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance from the U.S. Department of Defense.
Nice-to-haves- Active/current SECRET Clearance from the U.S. Department of Defense (preferred).
