Overview
People Tec is currently seeking a Senior Instructional Systems Designer (ISD) to support our Huntsville, AL location.
The Senior Instructional Systems Designer is tasked with leading the design, development, and modernization of training solutions for complex technical and operational environments. This role will shape next-generation learning products that leverage AI-powered, adaptive training ecosystems, simulation-based instruction, and data-driven learner analytics. The Senior ISD will collaborate directly with engineers, SMEs, development teams, and customer stakeholders to translate intricate workflows into modern, instructionally sound training products.
Duties- Lead the design and development of modern training products using the full ISD lifecycle
- Conduct analyses to define training requirements, job roles, and competency frameworks
- Develop storyboards, lesson plans, assessments, and supporting documentation for interactive and simulation-based training
- Architect training solutions that integrate AI-powered personalization, adaptive remediation, and performance-based learning models
- Collaborate with SMEs to capture technical workflows, system behaviors, and operator decision chains
- Work with developers, artists, and UX personnel to produce high-quality IMI, simulation content, and device-agnostic learning products
- Support design reviews, customer briefings, and working groups to refine requirements and ensure alignment
- Provide quality assurance for instructional clarity, accuracy, and compliance with established standards
- Contribute to project schedules, deliverables, CDRLs, and integrated development plans
- Deliver weekly status updates and maintain close coordination with project leadership and customer stakeholders
Required Skills/
Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in Instructional Systems Design (ISD) supporting technical, operational, or mission-critical programs
- Demonstrated mastery of the ISD lifecycle (ADDIE) and adult learning methodologies
- Experience conducting Front-End Analysis (FEA), Job/Task Analysis (JTA), and Training Needs Analysis (TNA)
- Proven ability to design interactive multimedia instruction (IMI Levels I-IV), simulation-supported learning, and scenario-based training
- Experience developing lesson specifications, storyboards, assessments, evaluation plans, and curriculum documentation
- Proficiency with modern learning development tools (e.g., Storyline, Captivate, HTML5 frameworks, MELD, or equivalent)
- Ability to interpret engineering, operational, or system-level workflows and convert them into coherent instructional products
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interface with SMEs, technical teams, and customers
- A strong emphasis is placed on the candidate's ability to analyze technical workflows, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and architect clear, effective, and modern training solutions
- The selected individual will bridge communication between instructional teams, engineers, and end-users to ensure training products align with mission, system, and workforce needs
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- An active DoD Secret clearance is required to perform this work. Candidates must have an active Secret clearance upon hire (or the ability to obtain), and the ability to maintain this level of clearance during employment

- Experience designing training for high-complexity systems (e.g., aviation, defense, cyber, energy, industrial automation, or similar domains)
- Familiarity with AI-enabled or adaptive learning systems, intelligent tutoring, or data-driven learning analytics
- Background in simulation-based training, serious games, or immersive learning technologies
- Understanding of ISO, CMMI, or similar quality frameworks
- Experience working in an Agile development environment
- Knowledge of UI/UX principles as they apply to instructional content
- Comfort operating within fast-paced digital modernization or transformation efforts
