SR. VDI / Virtualization Engineer (Mid-Level)
Scientific Research Corporation (SRC) is seeking a VDI / Virtualization Engineer (Mid-Level) to modernize, operate, and sustain secure Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and virtualization environments supporting U.S. Space Command (USSPACECOM) mission operations. This position supports highly available, multi‑enclave virtual desktop and application delivery environments across classified and unclassified networks, enabling a highly mobile and distributed warfighter population.
The candidate will design, deploy, and administer scalable virtualization solutions that enable rapid seat activation, centralized resource management, and secure access to mission systems. This role works closely with network, cybersecurity, systems engineering, and facility teams to ensure virtual environments are resilient, compliant, and operationally effective across multiple facilities and mission sites.
Responsibilities- Design, deploy, administer, and sustain enterprise Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and server virtualization environments using platforms such as Nutanix AHV, VMware vSphere, VMware Horizon, Citrix, or equivalent technologies.
- Support multi‑enclave virtual environments (NIPR, SIPR, TS/SCI as applicable), ensuring proper separation, access control, and performance across security boundaries.
- Administer Active Directory in support of VDI environments, including Group Policy Objects (GPOs), user and computer objects, RBAC, authentication integration, and profile management.
- Integrate VDI solutions with enterprise services including identity and access management (IAM), storage systems, backup solutions, endpoint security tools, and monitoring platforms.
- Manage full lifecycle operations including OS image creation, patch management, vulnerability remediation, automated application delivery, and baseline configuration enforcement.
- Monitor and optimize VDI performance by assessing latency, throughput, storage IOPS, and compute utilization to ensure a consistent and reliable end‑user experience.
- Support facility transitions, stand‑ups, and relocations, including VDI cutovers, migrations, and capacity planning for new or expanded mission locations.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, SOPs, operational runbooks, and recovery procedures.
- Support cybersecurity compliance efforts, including RMF control implementation, STIG application, vulnerability remediation, and coordination with ISSMs/ISOs.
- Participate in system testing, operational readiness activities, and troubleshooting efforts in coordination with engineering and operations teams.
- Provide on‑call or surge support during mission‑critical events, exercises, or transition windows as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).
- 3–5 years of hands‑on experience supporting VDI and/or virtualization environments in a DoD or enterprise setting.
- Demonstrated experience with one or more virtualization platforms such as Nutanix, VMware, Citrix, or Hyper‑V.
- Experience administering Windows‑based virtual environments and associated infrastructure services.
- Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity requirements, including RMF, STIGs, and privileged access controls.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multi‑disciplinary engineering team.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and documentation skills.
- DoD 8140 / 8570 Compliance

- Status:
- Experience supporting classified environments (SIPR, TS/SCI) and mission systems.
- Familiarity with automation tools, scripting (Power Shell, Bash), or infrastructure‑as‑code concepts.
- Experience supporting VDI at scale for geographically distributed users.
- Knowledge of Zero Trust principles and modern identity‑based access models.
