BackgroundThis position supports the discovery, implementation, and sustainment of a Service Now suite for a dedicated Department of Defense (DoD) community with significant leadership visibility. The System Administrator will play a key role in administering and optimizing the Service Now platform while focusing on Discovery activities to establish and maintain a robust and accurate Configuration Management Database (CMDB). This role requires a detail-oriented professional with expertise in Service Now administration, Discovery, and CMDB management, ensuring that configuration data supports operational, compliance, and mission-critical needs.
Responsibilities- Perform day-to-day administration and maintenance of the Service Now platform, with a focus on supporting CMDB and Discovery activities
- Configure and manage Service Now Discovery and Service Mapping to identify assets, relationships, and dependencies across the IT environment
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of the CMDB, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and alignment with DoD requirements
- Develop and implement strategies for integrating Discovery data into the CMDB, including CI (Configuration Item) class structures and relationships
- Monitor Discovery processes, troubleshoot issues, and optimize scans to ensure accurate data collection and minimal system impact
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define and implement CI attributes, relationships, and lifecycle states to align with operational and compliance needs
- Support Service Now ITSM, ITOM, and other modules by ensuring CMDB data is properly integrated and utilized in workflows
- Perform routine CMDB audits, reconcile data discrepancies, and maintain data integrity through configuration management best practices
- Develop reports, dashboards, and KPIs to monitor CMDB health and provide insights for decision-making
- Assist in defining and documenting CMDB governance policies, standards, and processes to ensure sustained accuracy and value
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, business analysts, and cybersecurity personnel, to support platform enhancements and compliance efforts
- Conduct training and provide guidance to end-users and administrators on CMDB and Discovery functionalities
- Ensure all Discovery and CMDB activities comply with DoD security frameworks, including RMF, NIST 800-171, and CMMC
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field (e.g., Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline) or equivalent experience
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Service Now System Administrator or similar role, with specific experience in CMDB and Discovery activities
- Experience with Service Now ITSM and ITOM modules, particularly Discovery and Service Mapping, is required
- Experience working in DoD or federal environments is highly desirable
- Certifications:
- Service Now Certified System Administrator (CSA) required
- Service Now Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS) for Discovery or ITOM is highly desirable
- ITIL certification is a plus
- Technical Proficiency:
- Strong knowledge of Service Now Discovery, Service Mapping, and CMDB architecture, including CI class structures and relationship mappings
- Proficiency in Service Now scripting (e.g., JavaScript, Glide API) and system integrations (e.g., REST/SOAP APIs)
- Familiarity with network protocols, infrastructure, and cloud technologies related to Discovery activities
- Experience with Agile methodologies and tools such as Jira or Service Now Agile Development
- Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve complex Discovery and CMDB-related issues
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to engage stakeholders across technical and non-technical teams
- Proactive approach to identifying opportunities for optimizing CMDB processes and data quality
- Clearance:
- Active Security clearance required; eligibility for higher-level clearance is a plus
