Position: Police Officer (Part-Time School Resource Officer) (Grade 14/21)

Police Officer (Part-Time School Resource Officer) (Grade 14/21)

We are seeking a retired, Alabama APOSTC certified law enforcement officer to serve as a Part‑Time School Resource Officer (SRO) within the Huntsville City Schools System. The SRO will act as a liaison between the Huntsville Police Department and Huntsville City Schools, planning and coordinating public safety training programs, conducting investigations of juvenile, vice, narcotics, and property crimes, counseling juveniles and parents, and providing information to the public.

Responsibilities
  • Liaison between Huntsville Police Department and Huntsville City Schools.
  • Plan, develop, conduct, and coordinate wide variety of public safety training programs.
  • Conduct complex and specialized investigations such as juvenile, vice, narcotics, crimes against persons, and crimes against property.
  • Interview and counsel juveniles and parents.
  • Provide information to the public.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or a GED certificate.
  • Must be an APOSTC certified law enforcement officer who honorably retired in good standing with no pending disciplinary action.
  • Must meet specific requirements as stipulated by the Alabama Peace Officer Handbook:
    Training Commission and other legal criteria as required.
  • Must successfully complete a pre‑employment supplemental application.
  • Must successfully complete a pre‑employment polygraph examination.
  • Valid driver’s license.
