This position supports the Human Lander Systems (HLS) program at NASA as part of the Engine Systems team. The engineer will serve as the Engine Systems Lead and will work both independently at times and in an integrated team performing engine systems and system engineering‑related activities to enable the design, test, and operation of the HLS propulsion system.
Primary Duties- Support of the Human Lander program through technical insight by providing reviews and risk assessment and recommendations on NASA‑partner engine systems and vehicle propulsion system design and development.
- Work may be a combination of insight to the design, technical recommendations to aid in design improvements and technical risk assessments and post‑test propulsion data reviews and assessments.
- Follow and understand the HLS partner Systems Engineering approach to design, development, integration and test.
- Data analysis and anomaly resolution as needed.
- Provide in‑depth engineering assessments of failure tolerances in support of Engineering Review Boards.
- Certify/develop products for flight.
- Review and provide assessments of HLS provider deliverables (such as milestone products, hazards, verifications, risks, and test reports).
- Attend technical interchanges, project planning, design review and other appropriate meetings to maintain a current knowledge base of design, requirements, issues, action items, and resolution activities. Identify issues, pursue resolutions, and provide supporting analyses. Complete assigned action items. Review requirements and implement risk management processes.
- Identify and document customer objectives and product requirements.
- Coordinate, develop, and present technical materials related to engine system performance and testing in support of design milestone reviews and anomaly investigations.
- Document and maintain test and data analysis processes in written work instructions.
- Participate in relevant trade teams. Identify and pursue resolution of issues.
A BS degree or higher in Aerospace Engineering or related field is required. A degree from an ABET accredited institution is preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a minimum of a Masters with at least 3 years of experience, or BS with at least 5 years of experience.
Qualifications- Familiarity with liquid rocket engine propulsion systems via coursework or work experience is desired.
- Familiarity with and experience in Systems Engineering processes and applications is desired. Experience with NASA systems engineering processes and terminology is a plus.
- Experience with testing, data acquisition and data analyses, and/or vehicle‑engine integration is desired.
- Exhibited capability to plan and perform systems engineering and analysis tasks independently and as a team.

Collaboration:
Proven ability to interface successfully across multiple organizations and disciplines, ideally in a leadership or collaborative capacity. - Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as Power‑Point, Excel, and Word is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Must be comfortable working across organizational boundaries to identify and resolve engine/vehicle integration issues.
- Experience working in a fast‑paced engineering environment with rapidly changing priorities, schedules and issues.
- Individual must be highly motivated, flexible and willing to shift focus areas to meet volatile customer requirements.
