Automation Controls Specialist

We are seeking a hands‑on Automation Controls Specialist to lead and execute industrial automation integration projects supporting aerospace, defense, medical, nuclear, automotive, and R&D customers. This role blends technical execution with project leadership in a true “player‑coach” capacity.
Responsibilities- Develop, modify, and troubleshoot control programs for PLCs, HMIs, industrial robots, VFDs, servo drives, and machine vision systems
- Oversee assigned projects from order receipt through electrical design, programming, installation, testing, and final customer acceptance
- Design and implement electrical and pneumatic control systems
- Perform on‑site field service, troubleshooting, and repair on company‑built and third‑party automation systems
- Interface directly with customers during integration, installation, and commissioning phases
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or related technical field (or equivalent hands‑on experience)
- 5+ years of industrial automation and controls experience
- Programming Expertise:
Proficient in PLC and/or industrial robot programming across multiple platforms - Demonstrated experience developing PLC programs and HMI applications for integrated systems
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Ability to pass strict background screening (no felony convictions)
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to travel approximately 15% (Southeastern U.S., typically 3–5 days at a time)
- Electrical design (AutoCAD Electrical 2009+ or similar)
- Pneumatic control system design
- Industrial robotics:
Motoman (Yaskawa), Fanuc, ABB, KUKA - PLC platforms:
Siemens, Allen‑Bradley (Rockwell), Toyopuc, Omron, Mitsubishi - Industrial I/O network configuration
- Machine vision systems:
Cognex and/or Keyence
