The Boeing Company is seeking a Manufacturing Research & Development (MR&D) Engineer in Huntsville, AL. Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels, including Associate and Mid‑Level Engineers. The Boeing Materials & Processes Technology (M&PT) team invites a new member to join our MR&D Engineering team at the Huntsville, AL site to support production and development programs (PAC-3, ExCoE, etc.)

and to initiate and implement process improvement efforts, including research and integration of manufacturing technology into the production system.

Position Responsibilities
  • Support production and manufacturing programs and development projects in process development and improvement efforts, including automation, production equipment, and assembly technologies.
  • Interact daily with shop personnel.
  • Work under technical mentor guidance, managing the completion of tasks on projects and developing solutions to technical problems.
  • Draft engineering specifications and other required documents needed to manage the deployment of tools, equipment, materials, parts, and processes to meet program requirements.
  • Define requirements for tools, equipment, materials, parts, and processes used in engineering design, manufacture, and maintenance of products and approve their use.
  • Lead production improvement operations to reduce assembly cost and to develop and implement a wide range of technology.
  • Review engineering documents, drawings, and support design reviews to ensure proper selection and specification of equipment and processes.
  • Research and evaluate new technology for potential application to business needs, performing TRL & MRL assessment on proposed/procured technology for production.
  • Use project management tools to meet cost and schedule requirements.
  • Work with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and other functions to perform manufacturing process improvements.
  • Coordinate with supplier management team for the purchase of equipment.
  • Lead a team in resolving technical problems impacting cost, schedule and performance.
  • Lead investigations to determine RCCA for production/assembly issues.
  • Incorporate environmental health and safety, LEAN, and Quality principles into materials and processes, research, design, and qualification, work procedures, and labs and office areas.
  • Lead and mentor others, establish work statements, define strategies, and provide consultation with peers while keeping management informed.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance Post‑Start is required.

Basic Qualifications
  • Level 2 – Advanced technical education from an accredited program in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g., Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years’ related work experience, or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience.
  • Level 3 – Same educational background with typically 5 or more years’ related work experience.
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering documents, specifications, and drawings.
  • Experience in a manufacturing/production environment.
  • Able and willing to travel up to 20% domestically.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in mechanical, aerospace, materials, chemical, or electrical engineering.
  • Active Secret clearance.
  • Experience in manufacturing techniques and processes.
  • Experience with manufacturing execution systems.
  • Experience with capital purchasing and project management.
  • Experience with Department of Defense programs.
  • Experience with 3D modeling software.
