Join our team supporting NASA’s Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLSS) for the International Space Station (ISS), commercial space partnerships, and future exploration missions including Artemis and Mars campaigns. This mid-career role involves leadership in controls engineering, software development, and LabVIEW integration for mission-critical systems. You will mentor team members, balance workloads, and act independently on technical matters while contributing to projects that have a significant impact on NASA programs.
The candidate will provide and perform the following tasks:
• Design, develop, and maintain LabVIEW-based control and data acquisition systems for ECLSS test stands and hardware.
• Integrate software with hardware components including sensors, actuators, and DAQ devices.
• Troubleshoot hardware/software integration issues and provide innovative solutions.
• Document software development processes including architecture, user manuals, and test procedures.
• Collaborate with engineers and scientists to define requirements and improve system functionality.
• Assist in problem resolution and task completion through mentoring and guidance.
• Distribute and balance team workload; monitor work to ensure requirements and deadlines are met.
• Plan and develop engineering projects addressing unique or controversial problems with significant organizational impact.
• Maintain liaison with internal and external stakeholders, acting independently on technical matters. A bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution is preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Master’s degree with at least 8 total years of experience including control engineering and LabVIEW development or a BS with at least 10 years of similar experience.
The candidate is required to have:
• Extensive experience with LabVIEW programming and integration with hardware systems.
• Strong understanding of wiring, electronics, and control systems.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Technical integration experience working with a variety of engineering disciplines and project/program organizations.
• Experience in product management, product strategy, and software development.
• Experience communicating to upper management and decision makers: “communicating to the top”.
• Outstanding negotiation skills demonstrated through complex technical problem solving and the capability to break down complex problems or issues into manageable pieces to facilitate resolution of technical concerns or issues.
• Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, customer relation skills, and presentation skills.
• Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Desired (presence of one or more of these qualifications will be used as discriminating factors in selecting applicants):
• CLAD, CLD or CLA LabVIEW Certification.
• Familiarity with NPR 7150.2D and NASA software engineering processes.
• Experience with aerospace component testing and test stands.
• Knowledge of thermal/fluid systems and instrumentation. Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
