Position: Mechanical Engineer I
Division: Innovative Solutions Group
Department: Mechanical Engineering
Status: Full-Time
Responsibilities- Create complete 3D models of each project, including top-level assemblies, sub-assemblies, and parts as needed, with:
- All assigned properties for use within analyses;
- Complete and accurate BOMs;
- Accurate and manufacturing-ready drawings designed for optimized cost, strength, and manufacturability;
- Communication with Electrical Engineers to identify and resolve differences between electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and client requirements.
- Use FEA to analyze parts, perform stress calculations, create tests to verify results, document analyses, and modify parts to optimize the design.
- Research, read, and understand outside standards such as MI, RVIA code, SAE, etc.
- Create, implement, supervise, and document tests verifying designs meet customer requirements.
- Complete all analyses, documentation, and drawings required for Production within established time frames as agreed upon by the Operations Team.
- Ensure that the correct documents are available to the correct teams in the company.
- Communicate with engineers, project management, and production leads to identify and implement improvement opportunities at project and company levels.
- Communicate with vendors and clients to troubleshoot designs and obtain specifications/drawings/models of components.
- Analyze proposed Change Orders and communicate assessment of their impact on design parameters, timeline, and budget; estimate engineering time for completion; assess feasibility; propagate downstream revisions to analyses, documentation, and drawings in a timely manner.
- Assist Sales and Marketing by creating 3D models and 2D drawings for proposals to customers.
- Utilize nesting software to create nest files for cutting parts on the CNC router.
- Track and record work hours for each project daily.
- Be willing to travel as needed by Management.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by Management.
- The practical application of engineering science and technology, including principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to design and production.
- Computer Aided Design (CAD);
Solid Works preferred. - Raw material, production processes (welding, machining, grinding/cutting), quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
- Physical principles, laws, and their applications to understanding fluid, material, atmospheric dynamics, and mechanical, electrical, electromagnetic, atomic and sub-atomic structures and processes.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office Suite and other computer-aided design programs.
- Ability to stand and sit for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity to operate office equipment.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
- Professional office environment with regular interaction with guests, clients, team members, and vendors.
- Typical indoor manufacturing environment with moderate noise; safety glasses and closed-toe shoes are required on the production floor.
- Business casual/smart casual attire appropriate for the office environment.
- Subject to temperature fluctuations if job duties require time on the production floor.
- Expected to maintain a professional image and demeanor on company property and while representing the company off-site.
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology; degree must be ABET accredited.
- Minimum 2–5 years verifiable work history as a Mechanical Engineer in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with Solid Works modeling, drawings, and file management.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the above requirements.
