Job Overview
Leidos Defense Systems Mission Assurance seeks a Quality Assurance Inspector for the Space Systems team in Huntsville, AL. The role focuses on the Laser Air Monitoring System (LAMS) program, ensuring the quality of cabin atmosphere monitoring hardware for NASA’s Orion spacecraft, and provides support to other human spaceflight and missile defense satellite programs.
Primary Responsibilities- Perform quality inspections of optical components, mechanical assemblies, electrical cables, and integrated hardware according to drawing/specification requirements.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams in a fast‑paced, clean room environment.
- Document nonconformances and coordinate final dispositions with engineering.
- Perform receiving inspections, log shelf‑life material, conduct First Article Inspections, compile End Item Data Packages, and measure parts using standard measuring equipment.
- High school diploma or GED with 2‑4 years of relevant experience in quality inspections, assembly, integration, or testing of high‑performance systems (e.g., aircraft, launch vehicles, spacecraft, or submarines).
- Proficient with standard inspection and measurement equipment (micrometers, calipers, multimeters, magnification, black‑light inspections, etc.).
- Ability to interpret and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) requirements.
- Experience in witnessing test procedures and generating test/inspection reports.
- Skill reading and interpreting drawings, assembly schematics, design models, and specifications; ability to prepare hand‑written or computer‑generated inspection reports.
- Proficient with Microsoft Windows and Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Capability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to work in a collaborative, cross‑disciplinary environment.
- Pass an eye exam for visual inspection.
- Resident of or willing to relocate to Huntsville, AL.
- Experience with spaceflight hardware (optics, satellite hardware, electronics, clean rooms).
- Certified Quality Inspector.
- Experience performing First Article Inspections (FAI) under AS9102 and within an AS9100 organization.
$48,100.00 – $86,950.00 (general guideline; final compensation based on responsibilities, experience, and market data).
