The Small Airborne Effectors Division within the Leidos Kinetic Effects Business Area is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and producing small to medium airborne missiles, unmanned vehicles, and payload effectors for a wide variety of defense customers. Our team is seeking an Electromechanical Technician to work at our Huntsville, AL campus providing support to a variety of design, integration, and test programs related to missile systems and unmanned aircraft.
This role offers a wide variety of hands-on work spanning avionics, integration, test, mission support, and field operations in development, prototype, and production environments. This is a dynamic opportunity in which talented technicians can thrive working on a diverse array of multidisciplinary projects in the kinetic effectors arena. We are in search of a highly motivated, trained, and talented electromechanical technician to foster advanced technology programs through the complete product lifecycle from research and development through full production.
- Build electrical and mechanical systems for various defense customers
- Build and fabricate production and prototype hardware through interpretation of electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
- Test and troubleshoot hardware, firmware, and software in both lab and field environments
- Design, build, and route cable harnesses and wiring assemblies
- Collect and correlate test data using a variety of lab equipment including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, digital multimeters, impedance analyzers
- Value the importance of following precise standard work instructions while empowering team members to contribute to their improvement
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with project managers, customers, and team members to optimize hardware solutions
- Contribute to system hardware and software architecture decisions
- Work independently as part of a broader multi-disciplined engineering team
- Work collaboratively with project teams to formulate innovative solutions to complex problems and products across a broad range of applications
- Coordinate with purchasing department and outside board/cable/machine shops to procure hardware
- Work closely with manufacturing teams to facilitate the transition from prototype hardware to a deliverable product
- High school diploma/GED with at least five years of experience working in an aerospace manufacturing environment or related experience and/or training
- Experience reading electrical schematics, system diagrams, mechanical drawings, and manufacturing documentation
- Experience building electrical and/or mechanical systems for defense customers and interest in hardware fabrication
- Familiarity with using laboratory test and debugging equipment such as digital multimeters, power supplies, oscilloscopes, function generators, and spectrum analyzers
- Understanding of PC board layout design and SMT manufacturing experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Constructive collaboration within and among multi-disciplinary teams
- Availability to travel to support testing and other events (average 10%)
- Active SECRET security clearance or the ability to obtain one
- Parts selection and wiring harness design/fabrication experience
- Printed circuit board testing and debugging
- 3D printing experience
- Soldering experience with both through-hole and surface mount technologies
- IPC J-STD-001 familiarity and/or certification
- IPC 620 familiarity and/or certification
- Sensor instrumentation experience (acceleration, velocity, position, pressure)
- Experience with flight hardware
- Experience with communication links and GPS/INS systems
- Rapid prototyping, integration, and test experience
