Job Summary
General Atomics (GA), and its affiliated companies, is one of the world’s leading resources for high-technology systems development ranging from the nuclear fuel cycle to remotely piloted aircraft, airborne sensors, and advanced electric, electronic, wireless and laser technologies.
General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) is a supplier of advanced electromagnetic systems, related power equipment and other high technology products for a variety of government and commercial applications. These include products such as the design and fabrication of linear motors, superconducting and conventional rotating motors, power inverters, high-energy capacitors, radiation monitoring systems, high-voltage direct current power distribution systems, and numerous other products.
We have an exciting opportunity in our Aerospace Systems Engineering directorate for a full-time Systems Engineer (SE) to support a variety of defense related development programs and products. The successful SE candidate will provide technical expertise to multi-disciplinary teams that may be geographically distributed between Huntsville, AL, San Diego, CA, Fredericksburg, VA and/or Centennial, CO and/or other locations. This position is located in Huntsville, AL and will work from our office in Cummings Research Park.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide Systems Engineering support to new weapon systems such as tactical missiles, projectiles, hypersonic vehicles from design and development through the integration and test phases of the product life‑cycle.
- May also support Systems Engineering for lasers, satellite systems, or other complex aerospace systems.
- Provide adaptable support to the systems engineering organization. Responsibilities may include systems engineering support to direct government funded programs, internal research and development projects, and proposals.
- Use the SysML tool Cameo / Magic Draw to produce system models which includes developing the standard 9 diagrams of activity, block definition, internal block, package, parametric, requirement, sequence, state machine and use cases.
- Perform analysis and decomposition of system, segment, subsystem and assembly requirements, budgets, and margins for mass properties, RF links, power, accuracy, probability of kill, latency, etc.
- Use the requirements management tool DOORS to capture requirements, perform requirement flow down, and maintain requirement traceability.
- Support development of system requirements, verification cross reference matrices, verification plans/procedures and other system engineering artifacts.
- Facilitate the development of mechanical, electrical, and logical Interface Control Documents (ICDs) for weapon system applications to include conducting working group meetings, outlining the document content, eliciting inputs from other engineering disciplines, editing the documents, and leading peer reviews as part of the release process.
