Overview

We are seeking a detail‑oriented and experienced Lead CMM Programmer/Operator to join our Quality team. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience with Zeiss coordinate measuring machines and be proficient in Calypso software. This role is critical to ensuring dimensional accuracy of precision components and maintaining the highest level of quality compliance in our manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities
  • Lead CMM programming, setup, and operation activities (Zeiss preferred) to inspect complex mechanical and electronic components.
  • Serve as the technical authority for CMM inspection strategy, including method selection, fixture approach, and inspection sequencing.
  • Develop, modify, and approve Calypso programs based on engineering drawings, CAD models, and GD&T requirements.
  • Review and analyze inspection data; prepare and approve detailed reports on nonconformances, trends, and part compliance.
  • Lead and support first article inspections (FAI), in‑process inspections, and final inspections in accordance with AS9100/ISO requirements.
  • Partner with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to resolve dimensional issues and drive corrective actions.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to CMM programmers/operators; support training and standardization of inspection practices.
  • Own CMM equipment readiness, including calibration coordination, routine maintenance oversight, and troubleshooting.
  • Participate in and lead root cause investigations and continuous improvement initiatives related to inspection processes and metrology capability.
  • Ensure inspection results and documentation are accurate, complete, and compliant with internal procedures and customer requirements.
Minimum Qualifications & Education Requirements and Desired Skillsets
  • High school or equivalent required; technical degree or certification in metrology, manufacturing, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience as a CMM Programmer/Operator, including demonstrated technical leadership or mentoring experience.
  • Hands‑on experience with CMMs; strong proficiency in Zeiss CMMs and Calypso software preferred.
  • Advanced understanding of GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and ability to apply GD&T in inspection strategy development.
  • Proven experience interpreting complex engineering drawings and 3D CAD models.
  • Ability to prioritize inspection activities, support production schedules, and work independently in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and attention‑to‑detail skills.
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, medical device, or precision machining environments.
  • Working knowledge of SPC, MSA, and other quality tools.
  • Experience with portable CMMs, laser trackers, or Romer Arms.
  • Experience with PC‑DMIS or other metrology platforms in addition to Calypso.
  • Knowledge of AS9100 and related quality management systems.
  • U.S. Citizenship with Active Secret Security clearance preferred. Ability to maintain the designated security clearance level is required.
Physical Description

Employees in these positions will work in an assembly, manufacturing, and production environment, as well as in equipment assembly areas using technical and electronic testing equipment, including specialized software. They will collaborate with various personnel in a manufacturing or testing setting, attend meetings, contribute to team efforts, deliver timely results, produce reports, and communicate information effectively. Telework may be included. In specialized laboratory or testing environments, employees will use electronic testing equipment, complex systems, and computer software.
