Overview
Leidos Defense Manufacturing is seeking talented Industrial Engineers (IE) to join a diverse team creating unique manufacturing solutions for our growing Defense Department customers. This position will support Electronics Manufacturing Facility, Mechanical Manufacturing Facility or Platform Integration Facility to develop, document, and execute manufacturing processes, systems, and procedures that support fabrication, machining, welding, painting, and assembly integration and test. The IE will provide technical expertise to efficiently lay out the manufacturing areas and balance the work content.
The Industrial Engineer will also provide input in formulating manufacturing strategies, defining business processes, facility planning, and driving engineering standards throughout the sites. Duties require applying Industrial Engineering concepts, techniques, analysis and decision tools to promote and implement changes in manufacturing, engineering and service operations. The role uses development of models, data bases and spreadsheets to analyze data (e.g., statistics, operations research, engineering economics) and provide summary analysis and metrics for consultation to customers.
It applies general industrial engineering techniques to identify areas for process improvement and to support process improvement and cost-reducing initiatives.
This posting is for multiple opportunities ranging in years of experience. Level of opportunity, including compensation, will be matched to a candidate's experience.
Primary Responsibilities- Perform "Top Level/Rough Cut" Capacity Planning and support Make vs. Buy process with capacity analysis.
- Develop process flows/roadmaps using simulation tools with inputs from the Manufacturing Team (Production, Manufacturing Engineer, Quality, Production Control).
- Design work center layouts to ensure safety and on-time delivery.
- Improve efficiency of processes by analyzing the Eng Standards vs Actual Run Times. Identify, prioritize, and implement solutions for process improvement opportunities including application of lean manufacturing principles, process mapping, and root cause analysis.
- Develop and maintain facility layouts in AutoCAD.
- Design production constraint visual controls and metrics that reduce the span time impacts to production.
- Help develop the standard processes and operating procedures for the Industrial Engineering Team to be utilized at all Defense Manufacturing Sector sites.
- Develop metrics to measure plant and equipment capability output and identify equipment and process flow bottlenecks.
- Conduct machine capacity analyses to improve machining efficiency (Tooling & Equipment Utilizations).
- Using standard industrial engineering tools, provide data to support and participate in Lean Improvement Events, Kaizan Blitz, Kaizan, workshops, etc.
- Work with quality engineering and production team to initiate corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.
- Analyze existing systems and processes and identify value-added and non-value-added activities to solve manufacturing challenges, including supporting manufacturing growth while consolidating core competencies into common manufacturing facilities.
- Assist site manufacturing teams with development, justification, and execution of long-range plans to meet corporate objectives, including production launch activities, plant layouts, and engineering change control activities.
- Assist in evaluation of capacity planning for fabrication, machining, weld, paint, and assembly equipment and processes to ensure ability to meet takt time and customer requirements.
- Identify, prioritize, and implement solutions for process improvement opportunities including application of lean manufacturing principles, process mapping, root cause analysis, time studies, and problem-solving techniques.
- Fostering an environment of continuous improvement best practices throughout all the manufacturing sites.
- BS in Industrial Engineering or Industrial and Systems Engineering discipline with at least 2 years of experience, OR Masters with less than 2 years of prior relevant experience, along with a BS in…
