Leidos’ Defense Systems is seeking a Hypersonic Systems Assembly, Integration, and Test Mechanical Engineer to join our team supporting the Multi-Service Advanced Capability Hypersonics Test Bed (MACH-TB) Flight Test Program as part of the Hypersonics Systems Division.

With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Leidos provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions. The MACH-TB program focuses on developing rapid-cadence, affordable flight-testing capabilities to advance the Technology Readiness Level of hypersonic technologies. The selected candidate will develop flight test mechanical assemblies, interface with AIT leads, program management, military and other government personnel, and a team of multi-discipline design and development engineers to support complex test and evaluation requirements.

The candidate must be able to develop test and evaluation strategies using models, simulations, analyses, tests, and demonstrations. A firm understanding of missile system architectures, system interfaces, and performance requirements verification and validation techniques is essential. The candidate will present test plans and related artifacts at formal design reviews to the customer.

Responsibilities
  • Develop flight test mechanical assemblies for various technologies, methods, conditions, etc., as an integral member of the MACH-TB Team.
  • Interface directly with AIT leads, program management, military and other government personnel, and a team of multi-discipline design and development engineers, to support test and evaluation requirements.
  • Develop test and evaluation strategies utilizing models, simulations, analyses, tests, and demonstrations.
  • Prepare and present test plans and related artifacts in formal design reviews.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure successful execution of testing and integration tasks.
Basic Qualifications
  • High School Diploma with 10+ years in a mechanical engineering environment or related technical field with 5+ years in a flight test environment, OR a Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering with 4+ years of experience in mechanical engineering.
  • Strong technical background in defense systems (or subsystems).
  • Strong verbal and written skills with practical knowledge of complex missile or space systems, system integration, and testing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership (internal/client) on strategic matters.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment.
  • Organizational skills to document work and coordinate information flow within a team.
  • Resident of North Alabama or willingness to relocate to the Huntsville – North Alabama area.
  • U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Final Secret Clearance (or eligibility to obtain one).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current DoD Top Secret clearance.
  • Experience creating detailed mechanical drawings and releases, mechanical assembly, integration, and test planning.
  • Experience with prototype production efforts.
  • Experience with missile or hypersonic development flight testing and range safety.
