Job Description

At Boeing, we innovate and collaborate to make the world a better place. We’re committed to fostering an environment for every teammate that’s welcoming, respectful and inclusive, with great opportunity for professional growth. Find your future with us.

Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) is looking for a Lead Loads and Dynamics Engineer (Level
5) to join our team in Huntsville, Alabama.

Join a high-performing engineering team that’s shaping the future of launch vehicles. You’ll drive the development, verification, and validation of dynamic loads while executing advanced coupled loads analyses and developing secondary-structure loads that directly influence vehicle safety and mission success. You will develop, integrate, and document complex or unique structural loads and environment requirements to establish the system-level design, and you will lead efforts to improve loads development processes to bring greater efficiency, robustness, and innovation to our work.

Collaborating across structures, avionics, systems, and test, you’ll have immediate, tangible impact on vehicle integrity and mission outcomes.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Directly support the Loads and Dynamics Technical Lead Engineer over the Exploration Upper Stage Program

  • Mentor early career engineers

  • Perform structural dynamic analyses for spacecraft flight hardware. Loads analysis includes independent simulations using NASTRAN of all ground and flight events to which the launch vehicle is exposed, and the development of internal loads on secondary structures or components associated with these flight events. Examples include liftoff, ascent (gust/buffet response), and base-drive analysis using NASTRAN, etc.

  • Produce and maintain models generated from both in-house and commercially available software codes that simulate mechanical loading conditions, dynamic environments (shock and vibration), and mechanism motions

  • Document analysis results in formal reports and presentations that are clear, adequately detailed, and timely

  • Define and integrate requirements into the system baseline

  • Customer contact and coordination will be instrumental and a critical skill for the successful candidate

  • Perform anomaly investigation of structural dynamics tests

  • Support work for multiple program(s) or product line(s) of spacecraft to meet product lifecycle milestones

  • Support project planning and ensure execution on program commitments

  • Evaluate test and flight data to validate components and systems against design requirements and objectives

  • Contribute to design/analysis processes and tools to improve effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the development effort

  • Some travel may be required, includes the production facility in New Orleans, test houses and suppliers in various states, and Kennedy Space Center

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement

  • 9+ years of working experience in structural loads and dynamics

  • Experience in teaching, coaching and developing others

  • Experience managing complex programs

  • Strong software programming skills and experience of programming languages such as Python, Matlab, Java, Julia, C, or C++

  • Experience in launch vehicle loads development

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • 7+ years of launch vehicle coupled loads analysis experience

  • 5+ years of developing launch vehicle loads development methods and processes

  • Working knowledge of NASA requirements as it relates to loads and/or structural dynamics

  • Experience with multidisciplinary collaboration (e.g. vibro-acoustics & shock, design, propulsion, structural, etc.)

  • Experience with developing and documenting loads requirements for major programs
