Quality Engineer – Huntsville, Alabama
Leidos Defense Systems Sector is seeking a Quality Engineer to support mechanical and electrical manufacturing and assembly integration and testing for aerospace and defense manufacturing. The role involves program quality planning, analysis of QA requirements, development of inspection and test procedures, finalization of source inspection checklists, coordination of nonconformance documentation and root‐cause/corrective action. Key duties include reviewing AS9102 FAI documentation, working with DCMA and other government quality assurance agencies, collecting and reporting quality metrics, reviewing and approving new drawings, supporting project managers during design and manufacturing readiness reviews (PDR, CDR, APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, PFMEA), and conducting supplier surveillance audits.
Qualifications- Candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree and 4‑8 years of experience in an ISO
9001/AS9100 system or equivalent experience in DOD, Aerospace, or Automotive manufacturing quality control. - Proficiency in GD&T per ASMEY
14.5‑2009. - Experience with non‑conforming material, failure analysis, root‑cause identification and corrective action implementation.
- Experience writing work instructions, procedures and implementing QMS documentation associated with AS9100.
- Ability to review and interpret contract quality clauses and technical data, and develop and document appropriate quality verification procedures, plans, and work instructions, including AS9102 First Article Inspection documentation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Physical ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Demonstrated effective communication within a team environment.
- Capability to work collaboratively in a multi‑disciplinary engineering environment.
- US citizenship with a valid DoD Secret clearance.
- Resident of North Alabama or willing to relocate; no relocation assistance provided.
- Knowledge of Mechanical Engineering.
- Working knowledge of CNC Machining & Inspection.
- ASQ Certified Quality Engineer.
- Six Sigma Green or Black Belt.
- Experience in developing PFMEA and RCCA.
