Position Description

The person in this position will provide Systems Engineering, Requirements management, Verification, and Validation (RV&V) coordination, and system level integration support to the MSFC Systems Design and Verification Branch (EV72) for support to the Space Nuclear Propulsion (SNP) Office, and to the MSFC Systems Engineering and Integration Division (EV70). The successful candidate will coordinate and interface with multiple engineering disciplines, system elements, cross-program elements, and customers, as well as participate in reviews, meetings, working groups, task teams, and trade studies.

The candidate will supply leadership and/or support for the development of key systems engineering products including requirements specifications, support program/project milestones and subsequent activities where these products are assessed and matured. The successful candidate will work with the SNP customers/partners from inception to deployment to ensure stakeholder needs are satisfied.

System engineering support to be provided by the candidate includes the following responsibilities
  • Lead and/or support development of SNP requirements and verification products and ensure compliance with these requirements during development, testing and evaluation of SNP components.
  • Provide technical integration with other engineering disciplines, the SNP Program, and cross-program elements, including risk-based insight/oversight through assessment of requirements and verification activities.
  • Support the SNP Lead Systems Engineer (LSE) and Engineering Discipline Lead Engineers (EDLEs) to evaluate prime contractor deliverables, including assessments of element Detailed Verification Objectives and verification of allocated end item specification requirements.
  • Perform systems engineering tasks and assessments to support the SNP Program through reviews, meetings, working groups, trade studies and development of key systems engineering products to support program milestones.
  • Develop integrated schedules and other tracking mechanisms to manage the work and identify risks and opportunities.
  • Implement Digital Engineering best practices, approaches, techniques, and tools.
  • Provide support for requirement V&V including V&V planning, execution, coordination, and integration for system level requirements to assure design compliance.
  • Communicate technical issues, risks, best practices and lessons‑learned related to products, technical positions, requirement management, and V&V practices and develop integrated schedules and other tracking mechanisms to manage systems engineering tasks.
  • Lead and/or facilitate complex tasks, including task teams, data agreements, change package reviews, and trade studies as well as independently manage subtasks with minimum government oversight.

A degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline is required. Degree from an ABET accredited institution is preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Ph.D. with a minimum 4 years of experience;
