Systems Engineer Job Description
We are seeking a Systems Engineer to support a government contract within the Sentinel program for MDA. This role involves leading as a Subject Matter Expert in systems administration, focusing on Windows, VMWare, Horizon VDI, and enterprise implementation, among other areas.
Responsibilities- Perform as a Staff Systems Administrator for a medium-to-large-sized government contract.
- Lead the team with expertise in Windows, VMWare, Horizon VDI, Enterprise Implementation, Migration, and Maintenance.
- Communicate effectively across all organizational levels, with internal and external customers, both in writing and verbally.
- Maintain smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, coordinating with network, software, and system engineers, desktop technicians, project managers, end users, and IT personnel.
- Ensure necessary administration tasks are completed across multiple networks.
- Collaborate with System Engineering and team members to develop recommended system improvements, upgrades, and solutions.
- Implement system enhancements to improve performance and reliability, including installing, upgrading/patching, monitoring, problem resolution, and configuration management.
- Administer backup and recovery services, manage file systems and disk space, and maintain virus protection.
- Create and maintain user and computer accounts, modifying file permissions and security access lists.
- Test new product releases for compatibility and minimal user impact.
- Develop and document technical processes and procedures.
- Make hardware, software, and system component purchase recommendations.
- Lead team in STIG compliance and IA accreditation.
- Maintain security audit and logging information on all networked and standalone computers in a classified environment.
- Develop security documentation for Computer Security input.
- Report project status for all recurring and non-recurring efforts.
- Provide end-of-day and end-of-week task status updates to management.
- Obtain and analyze customer requirements, recommend equipment and software, and oversee system implementation and accreditation.
- Navigate complex system configurations and implement enhancements to improve system performance, reliability, and security.
- Ensure administration tasks are completed and direct others as necessary.
- Active secret clearance and eligibility for TS.
- Bachelor's degree with 12+ years or Master's degree with 10+ years of relevant experience.
- Expertise in Windows, VMWare, Horizon VDI, Enterprise Implementation, Migration, Maintenance, PKI design, STIG compliance, and IA accreditation.
- DoD 8570 IAT Level 2 certification such as Security+ CE, CySA+, CCNA security, GSEC, SSCP or higher.
- Network design and implementation experience with Cisco and HP Switching, firewalls, VSAN design, Linux and Unix administration.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with Storage Area Network (SAN) and Network Attached Storage (NAS) design and implementation.
- Experience with cryptological devices such as KG-175, KIV-7, KGR-42.
- Ability to be granted special program access (SAP/SAR) within 1 year of hire.
- Windows Domain architecture experience.
- Experience in scripting and automation, particularly with Ansible.
- Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Willingness to work after hours and weekends as needed.
The position is based onsite at a cleared facility, located at either the Bradford Drive location or Redstone Gateway Location. The role may involve working after hours and weekends as necessary.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Huntsville, AL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $60.00 - $100.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
