Leidos is actively seeking a passionate, detailed-oriented problem-solver to serve as a Deputy Chief Engineer – Mechanical Systems to support the Common Hypersonic Glide Body. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Leidos provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions. Leidos is involved in multiple contracts to provide hardware and systems for high energy weapons, launchers, hypersonics, and target surrogates for several DoD customers.

The Deputy Chief Engineer – Mechanical Systems will support the Chief Engineer for several aspects of the engineering and flawless program execution to include:
- Balance technical risk with cost and schedule risk to ensure executable yet technically sound deliverables
- Provide independent oversight across all mechanical systems to ensure overall technical compliance to the Technical Data Package (TDP)
- Act as the independent technical authority and be responsible for the technical baseline for mechanical systems
- Assess and approve technical completion and compliance at major program and subsystem technical reviews
- Provide engineering leadership and mentoring to coordinate design, analysis, and systems engineering processes throughout development, verification, delivery, and operation
- Collaborate with engineering leadership to assess and carry out engineering process health and compliance with standards and procedures for product / program
- Represent Leidos Dynetics and the program with key customers and partners
- Mechanical Engineering resource and talent planning
- Development and mentoring of engineering staff to include providing career guidance and professional growth opportunities for high potential employees
Basic Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent field from an ABET accredited school is required. Candidate should have 12 years
of relevant experience. - CURRENT DOD SECRET CLEARANCE REQUIRED
- Expert knowledge of Technical Data Packages (TDP) development
- Experience in requirements definition, design, development and test of hardware systems
- Experience in management of hardware design teams to include developing integrated master schedules, and planning required to execute small to large sized programs
- Must have a working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
- A background in DoD programs is required. Candidates must have good organizational skills and attention to detail, and work well in a team environment
- Experience with Creo Elements/Pro (formerly Pro/ENGINEER)
- Knowledge of missile mechanical structural systems including cast, forged and
machined parts - Experience with environmental testing of missile components and related test equipment
- Experience with compatible materials, fasteners, coatings, processes and assembly methods
- Knowledge of ASME drawing standards
- Organizational skills to document designs
- Experience managing a team of engineers
